How you become confident and show it on the soccer field
Players of all ages at some point or another struggle to have confidence on the soccer field. What they may overlook is that confidence is a skill that must be developed. Below are some tips you can use to increase your soccer confidence.
- Get relevant experience
Practice hard. Understand and master the basic mechanics of what your position requires of you. If you are a forward, you need to be able to shoot and finish. If you are a midfielder, you need to be able to control the ball and distribute it efficiently. If you are a defender, you need to know how to contain your opposition and relieve them from the ball. - Believe in yourself
If you don’t believe in yourself, you will fail. Negative thoughts affect your mindset and ultimately the way you play your game. If you make a mistake, don’t react negatively. Keep your head up, be positive and hustle back on defense. - Don’t let external influences and people affect your game
Don’t focus on things out of your control. Don’t worry about the people watching you or the other players trash talk. Focus on what’s in your control. Your game, ability and mindset. - Do not fear failure
Many players come to an important game with the mentality that they might mess up, embarrass themselves and lose. Do not get sucked into a negative mindset. Instead, think about how great you are going to feel when you do everything right, when you make that important tackle, when you score that game winning goal. - See yourself playing with confidence
Visualization allows people to build relevant experience inside their head and to see their desires go the way they want. Practice visualization. Breakdown the process exactly how you and your team will win the match in your head. Also visualize the struggle and how you and your team is going to overcome it. Visualize the victory with the challenges to overcome. - Confidence is not gained overnight
If you are not getting any more confident it may be because you are not practicing the skill enough. Practice your confidence daily and you will become more confident on the soccer field.
